Job Summary

Provide nursing care under general supervision to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex on a medical/surgical unit. Care includes pre- and post-surgical patients, some requiring stepdown/PCU level care.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned group of patients, including documentation of patient responses and changes in physician orders.
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
• Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
• Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
• Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families.
• Make referrals for patient care needs and delegate tasks to support staff.

Unit Details

• Med/Surg unit; no OR candidates accepted.
• Stepdown/PCU experience required.
• Patient care includes those with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT).
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients, 3:1 for stepdown area.
• Acute care surgical floor experience required.
• ENT and/or transplant experience preferred.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Approximately 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Oklahoma
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience caring for patients with ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), and double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT)
• Acute care experience
• Stepdown experience
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
