Registered Nurse (PCU)

Location

Omaha, Nebraska

Contract Length

13 weeks

Unit Details

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 28 beds
Patient population: Adults, mixed medical/surgical, including cardiac and stroke patients, often admitted through the ER
High patient flow with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: 1:14
Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
Telemetry/Monitor techs available; RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry

Shift & Scheduling

Night shifts: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
6-week scheduling cycle
Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday and Saturday nights)
Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff

Orientation

One week classroom orientation
Followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation

Floating

Required to float to Med/Surg and other hospital areas, including ICU and ED, based on abilities and patient care needs

Required Certifications

BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Nebraska
Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications

Additional Requirements & Policies

Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius of the facility
Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within the 50-mile radius
Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

Equipment & Support

Specialty equipment includes Code Carts, LUCAS machines, hoyer lifts, and Sit and Stand devices
Unit secretary available 2-3 days per week
Stocking clerk available 3 days per week

Work Environment

Fast-paced, high flow unit requiring teamwork and positive attitude to manage challenges
