Staff Nurse – Johnson City, New York

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. The RN ensures compliance with nursing standards and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act and nursing ethical codes. The role promotes a caring, patient-centered environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
• Serve as primary or accountable nurse based on unit assignment.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
• Participate in resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support Nursing Shared Governance Model through unit council participation and improvement initiatives.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York.
• Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• ACLS certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience in management roles.
• Experience with cardiac medications.
• Ability to read cardiac rhythm strips.
• Experience managing stroke patients and post-stroke care.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Additional certifications such as PALS or TNCC as required by the assigned unit.

Work Schedule

• Day shift.
• 12-hour shifts.
• 36 hours per week.
• Every other weekend.

Unit and Patient Population Notes

• Med/Surg, Neuro, Cardiac Telemetry units.
• Patient conditions include strokes, traumatic brain injuries, craniotomies/cranioplasties, back surgeries, VP/LP shunts, seizures, syncope, hypertension/hypotension, and vascular surgeries.
• Common equipment used: Bard IV pumps, GE cardiac monitor, EPCD, sit-to-stand tool, Hoyer lift, transfer boards, seizure pads.

Contract Length

• Approximately 13 weeks.
