Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: 6 East – PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adults
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a mixed unit with Oncology PCU and Trauma PCU patient populations.
- Float within same level of care to MedSurg and PCU units.
- Common patient diagnoses include oncology and trauma.
- Common drips/medications: chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix, insulin (occasionally titrated), and cardizem.
- Use specialty equipment such as ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring devices (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided), Alaris IV pumps, and Lyko lifts.
- Participate in hourly rounding to enhance patient experience.
- Nursing assistant support and additional unit support staff available (PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician).
- Self-scheduling with weekend requirement every other weekend.
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license.
- Minimum 1 year of PCU and/or Oncology nursing experience required.
- ACLS, BLS (AHA), and ONS/ONCC certifications required.
- Chemotherapy certification required.
- Pass a pass/fail open book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%.
- Valid driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius from the facility.
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination.
Orientation & Training
- 2 days of orientation provided.
- Real-time training available for specialty equipment and monitoring devices.
Staffing Ratios
- PCU Day: 1 RN to 4 patients
- Med/Surg Day: 1 RN to 5 patients
- Nights: 1 RN to 5-6 patients
- Charge nurse role available.
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome.
- No prior travel experience required.
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed.
- Candidates must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facilities within a 50-mile radius.
- EPIC experience within 6 months preferred but not mandatory.
