Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit.
  • Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
  • Patient ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
  • Must float within scope to similar units as needed.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
  • No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius.
  • No pending licenses accepted.
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Maximum 1 week RTO allowed during contract.

Patient Population / Specialty Focus

  • Cardiac unit patients requiring telemetry monitoring.
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams.
  • Peripheral line care and management.
  • Oxygen therapy including nasal cannula, face masks, and portable oxygen tanks.
  • Non-invasive airway management.
  • Isolation precautions.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, with Med Surg/Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Competency in phlebotomy.
  • Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams.
  • Peripheral line care and management skills.
  • Non-invasive airway management proficiency.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.

Orientation & Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required.
  • Color blindness testing required.
  • Facility-specific orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required.

Health & Compliance Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

  • Physical exam (within 1 year).
  • Fit mask test (annual).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year).
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season).
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year).
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.

Background & Verification

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • 7-year criminal background check including felony, SSN trace, national sex offender, and education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter.
  • Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable.
  • Employment verification of at least two past employments.
  • References required for direct hire candidates (2 references within 3 years).
  • State-specific checks including NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable), criminal background fingerprinting, disciplinary action, sex offender registry, and Medicaid exclusion list.

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • No on-call requirement.
  • Facility will provide necessary modules and onboarding documents prior to start.
