Registered Nurse (Med/Tele/PCU) - Bismarck, North Dakota
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN
- Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (7p-7a)
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 48 hours per week
- Unit Size: 32 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shifts: 1:4-5
- Night shifts: occasional 1:5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Scheduling:
- Rotating 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts, rotation no more than weekly
- Weekend and holiday work every other week
- Manager creates schedule; blocked scheduling may be considered
- Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of first week; independent by Sunday
Patient Population & Care
- Adults and geriatrics with cardiac and medical conditions
- Common diagnoses: cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related conditions, COVID-19 with BiPAP, general surgery patients with cardiac history, pneumonia (including COVID), acute on chronic conditions, influenza, sepsis
- Care level: Telemetry and cardiac-focused PCU care
Clinical Responsibilities
- Must have PCU experience and ability to read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- RN responsible for titrating drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine (no Levophed)
- Manage respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo; primarily troubleshooting
- Charge nurse present on each shift, occasionally takes a light patient load (2-3 patients)
- Nurse aides/patient care technicians support unit with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Telemetry/monitor techs present at nurse’s station and patient rooms
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in North Dakota
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Prior PCU experience required
- Ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Epic electronic health record experience preferred but not required
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply (prior travel experience not required)
Additional Information
- Floating required to other areas including PCU, medical-surgical, and emergency room holds/boarding
- Dress code: any color scrubs allowed
- Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities within the region
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
