Registered Nurse (Med/Tele/PCU) - Bismarck, North Dakota

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN
• Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights (7p-7a)
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 48 hours per week
• Unit Size: 32 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shifts: 1:4-5
  • Night shifts: occasional 1:5-6
  • PCU overflow: 1:3
• Scheduling:

  • Rotating 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts, rotation no more than weekly
  • Weekend and holiday work every other week
  • Manager creates schedule; blocked scheduling may be considered
• Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of first week; independent by Sunday

Patient Population & Care

• Adults and geriatrics with cardiac and medical conditions
• Common diagnoses: cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related conditions, COVID-19 with BiPAP, general surgery patients with cardiac history, pneumonia (including COVID), acute on chronic conditions, influenza, sepsis
• Care level: Telemetry and cardiac-focused PCU care

Clinical Responsibilities

• Must have PCU experience and ability to read and interpret cardiac strips independently
• RN responsible for titrating drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine (no Levophed)
• Manage respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo; primarily troubleshooting
• Charge nurse present on each shift, occasionally takes a light patient load (2-3 patients)
• Nurse aides/patient care technicians support unit with a goal ratio of 1:10
• Telemetry/monitor techs present at nurse’s station and patient rooms

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Dakota
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• ACLS
• BLS
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
• Experience titrating cardiac drips
• Telemetry experience

Additional Information

• Floating required to other areas including PCU, medical-surgical, and emergency room holds/boarding
• Dress code: any color scrubs allowed
• Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities within the region
• Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
