Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery / Maternal Child Health

Location

• Fremont, California

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Maternal Child Health
• 18 Labor/Delivery/Postpartum beds (LDRP) plus 8 overflow postpartum beds
• 2 OR suites for C-sections
• 2 triage beds
• Approximately 100-140 births per month
• Follows AWHONN guidelines for labor ratios and state-mandated 1:4 ratio for postpartum

Shift Information

• 12-hour shifts
• Day and night shifts available
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; shifts assigned based on unit needs
• Weekend and holiday coverage as needed
• No call or standby requirement

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Required Experience and Skills

• Experience with vaginal exams
• Experience circulating in C-sections
• Familiarity with AWHONN fetal monitoring standards
• Ability to titrate drips such as Pitocin and insulin

Patient Population and Common Diagnoses

• Patients with pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes

Team and Support

• Charge nurse typically does not take patient assignments
• Surgical techs and nurse aides available on unit
• OB available 24/7
• Pediatric hospitalist available 24/7
• Neonatologist available during day shift and on-call otherwise
• Anesthesia available 24/7
• Respiratory therapy equipment present (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Central telemetry tech monitors fetal heart strips; RNs not required to interpret strips
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Epic

Orientation and Scheduling

• Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts
• Floating to postpartum unit on a rotational basis

Dress Code

• Hospital-provided scrubs

This position requires a Registered Nurse with Labor and Delivery/Maternal Child Health experience, appropriate certifications, and the ability to work assigned 12-hour shifts in a busy hospital setting.
