Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Details
- 12-hour shifts with day and night rotations (3 shifts per week)
- Rotations will not occur within the same week but may rotate over a 4-week schedule
- Ability to float to other campuses within the health system
Required Qualifications
- Current California RN license
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (firm requirement)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA only)
- Previous travel nursing assignment required (no first-time travelers accepted)
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification preferred
- Experience in telemetry and ostomy care
Certifications & Competencies
- Pass/Fail Telemetry Exam required on first day for applicable units
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher (valid within 1 year prior to start)
- Unit-specific Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher (valid within 12 months prior to start)
- Core Parts I, II, and III training with passing scores of 80% or higher, completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for all RNs
Background & Verification Requirements
- Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent or second most recent employer
- Current and updated resume covering the last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained
- Verification of 7 years of work history required (attestations considered only if multiple verification attempts fail; not acceptable for most recent employment)
- 7-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including specific county and nationwide checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required (copy of diploma or transcript acceptable)
- NURSYS verification required for RN license within 30 days of start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask models required); onsite fit testing available as last resort
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted except with medical exemption)
- Two negative TB tests required: one within 1 year and one within 3 months of start (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot)
- Annual TB questionnaire required within 30 days of start
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
- Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, renewed every 2 years
- Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April)
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required
Orientation & Training
- Completion of required learning modules prior to or on Day 1 of assignment (modules include compliance, cyber security, HIPAA, and unit-specific training)
- Pass/Fail Telemetry exam on first day for applicable units (2 attempts allowed; third attempt requires manager approval)
- Candidates must review and initial COVID-19 preparedness, parking, and uniform policies prior to start
Additional Notes
- Completed references must be submitted at time of application
- Return-to-Offer (RTO) documents must be submitted at time of offer; late submissions will not be considered
- Candidates must complete required questionnaires and forms related to emergency contact, cyber security, and health screening prior to start
- Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance submission and approval
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with oncology and telemetry skills who are comfortable with a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and meet the comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
