Registered Nurse (Med/Tele/PCU)

Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (7a-7p)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Overview

  • Unit Type: Medical/Telemetry/Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Number of Beds: 32
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Day shift: 1:4-5
    • Night shift: occasional 1:5-6
    • PCU overflow: 1:3
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related issues, COVID-19 (BiPAP), general surgical patients with heart history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis
  • Unit Focus: Telemetry and cardiac care

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Must have PCU experience and be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • Experience with telemetry/cardiac nursing strongly preferred
  • Ability to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (Levo not required)
  • Epic electronic health record experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Open to first-time travel nurses

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide PCU level care including telemetry monitoring and cardiac nursing
  • Read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
  • Titrate and manage cardiac drips as ordered
  • Collaborate with charge nurses who occasionally take a light patient load
  • Work alongside nurse aides/patient care technicians (goal ratio 1:10)
  • Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo devices
  • Float as needed to other areas including PCU, medical-surgical, and emergency room holds/boarding

Scheduling and Orientation

  • Shift rotation: 7a-7p and 7p-7a; 7-7 rotation limited to once per week maximum
  • Weekend and holiday work required every other week
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of the first week; independent by Sunday
  • Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed

Additional Information

  • Radius restriction: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities within that radius
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
  • Floating to other units as needed to support patient care demands

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Tele/PCU RNs comfortable with telemetry monitoring, cardiac care, and managing complex drips in a fast-paced progressive care environment.
