Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Omaha, Nebraska
Job Details
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:30 - 18:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit Beds: 18
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Schedule: Manager-created schedule with weekend and holiday coverage every other week or as needed
- Floating: Required to float to all inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Patient Population & Unit Information
- Care for open heart, complex thoracic and vascular surgery patients
- Support patients stabilized with Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO
- Common cases include advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs
- Also supports complex cases from cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
- No CNAs on unit; RNs provide all direct patient care
- Hospitalists and intensivists are in-house 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow; RNs troubleshoot all equipment
- No telemetry/monitor techs; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips independently
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge expected
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of CVICU or equivalent critical care experience with this patient population
- Skills: Must be able to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation or face contract termination
- Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
Additional Information
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within the 50-mile radius
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- No call or standby requirements
