Registered Nurse (L&D) - Night Shift

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Mother-Baby unit
• 22 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 7 triage beds, 34 postpartum beds
• Average births: 8-12 per day, 250 per month, 2900 per year
• Level III NICU on site; Neonatologist not in-house 24/7, APPs available 24/7
• Anesthesia available 24/7
• RN responsible for reading fetal monitor strips (GE Corometrics EFM system)
• Surgical techs available on unit
• No respiratory therapy equipment on L&D

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license for Colorado
• Minimum 2 years of high-risk Labor & Delivery experience
• Must be able to circulate during C-section surgeries in the OR
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Experience titrating drips such as oxytocin and magnesium sulfate

Schedule & Work Details

• Night shift, 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling process, but flexibility required to fill shifts as needed
• Weekend and holiday work required
• Call requirement: 18 hours of call every 6 weeks, signed up in 6-hour increments
• Floating required to postpartum unit
• Orientation: 1 shift unit-specific orientation; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are remote
• Hospital-provided scrubs

Patient Population & Care Focus

• Common diagnoses: labor, C-section, pre-eclampsia, infants of diabetic mothers (IDM), various antepartum complications
• Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios as much as possible
• RNs required to titrate drips and read fetal monitoring strips independently

Additional Notes

• Must have a valid driver’s license and be within a 60-mile radius for travel
• No unit manager involvement in hiring process; interview with clinical team only
• Charge nurse does not take patient assignments

This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses comfortable with high-risk cases, OR circulation during C-sections, and flexible scheduling including call and floating duties.
