Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Woodland, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in an 18-bed Emergency Department including 4 fast track beds.
• Provide care for general community hospital ER patients, including chest pain rule out MI, exacerbations of chronic diseases, and psychiatric holds. Major cases are transferred to higher-level facilities.
• Night shift position with 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Holiday coverage rotates with core staff.
• Self-scheduling available but finalized by manager; schedules released 4 weeks in advance.
• Occasional mid-shift float to other Sacramento area facilities possible but rare.
• Orientation includes 1-2 days floor-specific training with a preceptor.
• Use Cerner EMR system.
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips (Telemetry skills required).
• Charge nurse duties include break relief but generally no direct patient assignments.
• Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictate.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage in-house.
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7.
• No IV team on site.
• Ventilator patients are uncommon.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Valid Driver's License.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN license.
• BLS (Basic Life Support).
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required.

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Two supervisory references required at time of submission: one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years.
• Dys exam through UNA/Relias required prior to signing; must be completed within 24-48 hours with a pass/fail outcome (two attempts allowed). A recent Dys exam within 12 months may be accepted.
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by certain affiliated health systems within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable.
• Scrub color: navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy.
• No triage responsibilities for agency nurses.
• Behavioral Health Unit nurses handle mental health patients separately.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio typically 4:1.

Shift Details

• Night shift, 12-hour shifts.
• Report at bedside.
• Overtime and extra shifts available.
• Block scheduling generally not available.
