Registered Nurse (PCU RN) - Council Bluffs, Iowa

Job Details

Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Type: Stepdown/PCU, 22 beds
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
Patient Types: Heart failure, Atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, stroke
Work Environment: Fast-paced with frequent admissions and discharges

Clinical Responsibilities

Titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
Read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
Troubleshoot CPAP equipment
Float to ICU if appropriate and experienced
Collaborate with charge nurse who carries a full patient assignment
Work alongside nurse aides/patient care techs (ratio 1:10)

Orientation & Scheduling

Unit-specific orientation: 1 twelve-hour shift
Scheduling: Cyclic scheduling with shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday requirement: 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Required Certifications & Qualifications

Current RN license
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
Valid driver’s license required at submission

Additional Requirements & Policies

Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure results in termination
Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently or recently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility affiliated with certain large healthcare systems within the past year
No additional return-to-office (RTO) time beyond initial orientation will be approved
