RN Medicine Specialty

Overview

• Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Role Summary

• Provides nursing care in a hospital setting for patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
• May be floated to any area of the hospital.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Oklahoma
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg experience

• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
• Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services
• Ability to apply nursing techniques
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors
• Some computer skills

Key Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients
• Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments
• Notes changes in physician orders for assigned patients
• Assists physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures and treatment
• Obtains and monitors patient physiological data
• Observes patient physiological manifestations and intervenes when necessary
• Administers medication as prescribed
• Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products
• Delivers patient care competently
• Communicates the care plan with patients and families during hospitalization and at discharge
• Informs patients and families of hospital procedures
• Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
• Delegates tasks to support staff
