Registered Nurse

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
  • Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Work Setting

  • 30-bed unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 on day shift and 1:6 on night shift
  • Floating to other units is required
  • Weekend work is required every other weekend or less frequently
  • Holiday coverage is on a rotating basis
  • On-call may be required as a last resort for travelers

Clinical Focus

  • Colorectal conditions, including colorectal cancer and ileus
  • Post-surgical colorectal patients
  • Common additional diagnoses include osteomyelitis, sepsis, and pneumonia

Unit Details

  • LPNs are used on the day shift
  • Charge nurse is present on each shift and typically takes an assignment
  • Patient care technicians assist with vitals, bathing, blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, and ADLs

Equipment and Monitoring

  • High Flow and BiPAP are used for less than 24 hours
  • Nurses troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment
  • Nurses read their own EKG strips each shift
  • Virtual monitoring is used; no telemetry/monitor technicians are on site

Orientation

  • 3-shift unit/department orientation

Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs
