NuWest Healthcare is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide compassionate, high-quality care in a correctional healthcare setting. This is a great opportunity for an RN who is comfortable working with a diverse patient population and enjoys using strong assessment, critical-thinking, and communication skills in a structured environment.

The RN will provide direct patient care, respond to urgent medical needs, administer medications and treatments, and collaborate with providers and other healthcare professionals to support the health and well-being of patients in custody.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a correctional healthcare environment.
• Perform nursing assessments, triage, and ongoing monitoring.
• Administer medications, treatments, and other prescribed therapies safely and accurately.
• Respond to urgent and emergent medical situations.
• Monitor patients for changes in physical and behavioral health status.
• Conduct sick-call assessments and provide appropriate follow-up care.
• Assist providers with examinations, treatment plans, and procedures.
• Collect specimens and perform clinical procedures within scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records.
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, preventative care, and healthy behaviors.
• Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health professionals, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Communicate appropriately with correctional staff while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Follow medication administration, infection prevention, emergency response, and patient safety protocols.
• Maintain professional boundaries while providing respectful, trauma-informed care.
• Follow all facility, state, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Active RN license in the state of practice.
• Current BLS certification.
• Previous correctional healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience in emergency, acute care, behavioral health, urgent care, or other high-acuity settings may be considered.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries in a secure environment.
