Description
NuWest Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide healthcare services in a juvenile correctional facility. This is a unique opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working with adolescents and is comfortable providing care in a structured, secure environment.
The RN will provide direct patient care to youth in custody, including assessments, medication administration, sick-call services, health education, and response to urgent medical needs. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, maintains strong professional boundaries, and communicates effectively with both patients and a multidisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, age-appropriate nursing care to adolescent patients.
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and obtain medical histories.
- Perform triage and determine appropriate levels of care.
- Respond to urgent and emergent medical situations.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
- Provide sick-call services and follow-up care.
- Monitor patients for changes in physical and behavioral health.
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Collect specimens and perform nursing procedures within scope of practice.
- Provide education regarding medications, treatment plans, preventative health, hygiene, and healthy behaviors.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records.
- Coordinate care with medical providers, behavioral health professionals, social services, and correctional staff.
- Communicate patient needs appropriately while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Follow infection prevention, medication administration, emergency response, and patient safety protocols.
- Recognize and appropriately escalate changes in patient condition.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed healthcare environment.
- Follow all facility, state, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Active RN license in the state of practice.
- Current BLS certification.
- Previous experience with adolescents, behavioral health, corrections, emergency care, urgent care, or acute care is preferred.
- Juvenile correctional healthcare experience is a plus but may not be required.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Comfortable working collaboratively with healthcare and security personnel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
