Registered Nurse (RN) – Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Location: Sylmar, CA

Schedule: 4x10-hour shifts

Shift: Days

NuWest Healthcare is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality post-anesthesia care in a fast-paced surgical environment. The ideal candidate will have strong critical thinking skills, excellent assessment abilities, and experience caring for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
• Perform thorough post-anesthesia assessments and monitor patients for changes in condition.
• Closely monitor vital signs, airway, respiratory status, pain, and level of consciousness.
• Recognize and respond quickly to post-operative complications and emergencies.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, and other treatments as ordered.
• Manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other common recovery needs.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and the multidisciplinary care team.
• Provide patient and family education regarding recovery, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Ensure patients meet appropriate discharge criteria and safely transition to the next level of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Active California RN license.
• Current BLS certification.
• Previous PACU or critical care experience strongly preferred.
• Strong post-anesthesia assessment and patient monitoring skills.
• Experience managing airways, pain, and post-operative complications.
• Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
