Position Overview
NuWest Travel Nursing is seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse for an 8-week travel assignment. Both day and night shifts are available for this 3 × 12-hour position. The ideal candidate is a confident, detail-oriented clinician with strong telemetry and monitoring skills who thrives in a high-acuity step-down environment and can integrate quickly into a new team and workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing monitoring of PCU patients requiring an intermediate level of care
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic status, and respiratory function; recognize and respond to changes promptly
- Administer and titrate medications including vasoactive drips, antiarrhythmics, and anticoagulants per provider orders and facility protocols
- Manage patients with a variety of complex diagnoses including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and post-surgical conditions
- Perform 12-lead ECG acquisition and assist with interpretation as needed
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and execute individualized plans of care
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, procedures, and discharge planning
- Respond to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions, including rapid response activation when indicated
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record per facility and regulatory standards
- Assist with transitions of care between ICU, PCU, and medical-surgical units
- Uphold all patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards
- Complete required orientation, competencies, and mandatory training
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered RN license in the state of assignment (compact license welcomed)
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent PCU, step-down, or telemetry RN experience in an acute care setting
- Current BLS certification; ACLS required
- Demonstrated competency in cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
- Ability to manage high-acuity patients and respond effectively in rapidly changing situations
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to new environments and workflows
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) certification
- Experience with vasoactive and cardiac drip management
- Familiarity with mechanical ventilation and advanced airway management
- Experience in both inpatient step-down and telemetry settings
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems; Epic experience a plus
- Strong communication and collaborative teamwork skills
