Position Overview

NuWest Travel Nursing is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Medical Surgical travel assignment. We have a new assignment for RN – Med/Surg and are interviewing ASAP. This is a 3 × 12-hour Nights position at a great facility. NuWest connects talented healthcare professionals with opportunities that fit their experience, career goals, and lifestyle.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thorough patient assessments including health history, physical examination, and ongoing monitoring of assigned medical/surgical patients
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
• Administer medications and treatments accurately, adhering to facility protocols and safe medication practices
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition; initiate appropriate interventions and escalate as needed
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self-care management
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) per facility and regulatory standards
• Communicate effectively with physicians, charge nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure seamless care coordination
• Participate in handoff/change-of-shift reports, huddles, and unit-based quality improvement initiatives
• Uphold patient safety standards and adhere to all infection control, HIPAA, and Joint Commission guidelines

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Active, unencumbered RN license in the state of assignment (compact license welcomed)
• Minimum 1–2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience in an acute care hospital setting
• Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to new environments and workflows
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems; Epic experience a plus
• Excellent communication and collaborative teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (CMSRN)
• Experience with telemetry monitoring
• Compact/multi-state RN license
• Prior travel nursing experience
