Position Overview

NuWest is seeking experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses for an 8-week contract assignment in metropolitan Los Angeles. This high-acuity role requires a minimum of one (1) year of recent L&D experience in a Level 1 Trauma Institution serving a large, diverse patient population. RNs will provide comprehensive nursing care to women at various stages of pregnancy and labor across the Labor & Delivery unit, triage area, operating suites, and a three-bed recovery area, and may be floated to the Mother-Baby Unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor maternal and fetal status and interpret fetal heart rate patterns to guide clinical decision-making.
• Administer medications and manage labor support interventions throughout all stages of labor.
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, tubal ligations, and gynecologic procedures (DNE/DNC).
• Recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies, initiating rapid interventions and coordinating multidisciplinary care.
• Support pain management strategies, including epidural care and non-pharmacologic comfort measures.
• Provide care in the L&D unit, triage area, operative suites, and three-bed recovery area.
• Deliver culturally responsive patient and family education and emotional support throughout the perinatal experience.
• Ensure safe transitions to postpartum or newborn care, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team at handoff.

Required Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in California.
• Minimum one (1) year of recent Labor & Delivery experience in a Level 1 Trauma Institution in a metropolitan, high-volume, diverse-population setting.
• Required certifications: AHA BLS, PALS, NRP, Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification, NIHSS Certification, MAB or CPI, and LA City Fire and Life Safety Card (must be LA City-issued).
• Must complete LA County Employee Health Clearance prior to assignment start date.
