Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Employment Type: Travel


Unit and Work Environment

  • Unit: Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU)
  • Number of Beds: 20
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Shift Staffing (AM & PM): 10 RNs (adjusted for 1:1 care), 1 supervisor, 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT), 1 ICU waiting room Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
  • Floating Policy: Travelers float before core staff; may float to MICU, NSICU, CVICU, CICU, or Step Down units
  • Scheduling: 6-week schedule with 6 required weekend shifts
  • Documentation System: Cerner Power Chart
  • Dress Code: All navy or all white scrubs; navy bottoms with white top also acceptable
  • Scrub Colors: Navy or white

Required Skills and Experience

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
  • Experience working with Level I or Level II Trauma patients
  • Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU) experience
  • Trauma ICU experience
  • Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience
  • Active Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Procedures and Equipment

  • Procedures performed: Intubation, extubation, chest tube placement, central line and arterial line placement, Foley catheter placement, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, proning, TPA administration, hypertonic medication administration, tracheostomy placement, external ventricular drain (EVD)/bolt placement, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)/hemodialysis (HD), irrigation and debridement, minor surgery
  • Equipment used: EVDs, Camino/bolts, wound vacs, Baxter IV pumps, GE Carescape bedside monitors, GE ventilators, iCool machines, Blanketrol blanket, Bair Hugger, Prisma Max CRRT, Zoll defibrillators, Kangaroo feeding pumps, Alaris PCA pumps

Certifications and Licenses

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

  • Hospital is a Magnet-designated facility and an ACS Verified Level I Trauma Center
  • Modified self-scheduling available
