Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide direct patient care on a Medical-Surgical unit during day shifts (17:00 - 09:30). Care for Med/Surg patients in a 15-bed unit with potential expansion. May be floated to other units as needed.
Schedule & Hours
- Shift: Days
- Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
- Weekend Hours: As required, typically every other weekend
- Call: None
- Orientation for night shift occurs on day shift; availability for full week orientation required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience in an inpatient setting within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Valid Driver's License
Unit & Patient Care Information
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5-6 on days (not guaranteed)
- Equipment used includes Nova Meters (blood glucose), Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo pumps, and SCD machines
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
- Provides care for diverse patient population with medical comorbidities, post-trauma, and surgical interventions
Job Responsibilities
- Utilize nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
- Adhere to professional accountability and facility standards
- May involve physical demands such as standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and exposure to blood/body fluids
Additional Requirements
- Flu vaccination required (November 1 - April 1), no declinations accepted
- Dress code: Black scrubs; no open-toed shoes or unacceptable attire
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing and walking
- Bending, stooping, lifting, turning patients with assistance
- Exposure to blood and body fluids
- Physical ability to push, pull, grip, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
