Travel/Contract Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Assignment on HVTI-Stepdown unit with potential to float to units J1-2, J33, and Emergency Department caring for the same patient population.
- Shift: 3x12-hour shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm), rotating D/N shifts. Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication administration exam required during orientation with passing scores.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIHSS certification.
- CST certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Ohio RN License or Compact State RN License in hand prior to start.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross, RQI acceptable).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross, RQI acceptable).
- NIHSS Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only; Healthstream certs not accepted).
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, CNOR, CHEMO are not required for this assignment.
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Must pass ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate exams during orientation.
- Must have a permanent Ohio RN license or compact license in hand.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts including nights and holidays.
- Must have government-issued photo ID.
- Background checks including FCRA compliant 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required and must be updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results must be current within 12 months.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including capability to safely perform essential job functions.
- Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap every 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed.
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions.
- Varicella vaccinations or positive titer with booster if needed.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval).
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.
Orientation & Training
- Completion of Cleveland Clinic online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
- SafeMedicate and ECG medication administration exams are completed during orientation with required passing scores.
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
Additional Requirements
- References: 2 professional references from employment within 1 year, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (no co-worker references).
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar area to assignment.
- Skills checklist required annually.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprint attestation required annually.
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position.
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse with at least 18 months of permanent RN experience and recent Stepdown unit experience. The role requires rotating 12-hour shifts on a Stepdown unit with potential float to related units. Candidates must hold a valid Ohio or compact RN license and current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and CST certifications. Compliance with extensive health, background, and training requirements is mandatory. Prior travel experience is not required.
