Description
Registered Nurse (Med Surg Neuro) - Travel Position
Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Unit: Neurosciences (Neuro Floor)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (up to 26 weeks upon request)
- Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
- Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed (option for 48 hours/week upon request)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday), unless otherwise approved
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one major summer or winter holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day)
- Number of Openings: 3
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Unit Beds: 17
- Float Requirements: Will float to Med Surg and Progressive Care units as customary
- EMR System: EPIC
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical and Surgical Neuro patients including Parkinson’s, Stroke, Lumbar cases
- No trauma patients on this unit
- Equipment includes IV pumps and other customary neuro equipment
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
- Experience in charge nurse roles or demonstrated competency in charge responsibilities
- Competency in IV therapy, including central line management
Job Responsibilities
- Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans; establish nursing care objectives and interventions
- Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
- Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes in condition
- Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy (including central lines), and other personalized interventions
- Prepare patients for exams and assist as needed; explain procedures and discharge instructions
- Maintain safe patient care environment by adhering to infection control, medication administration, and safety protocols
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with healthcare team members
- Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
- Promote patient safety and act as patient advocate
- Document patient care accurately in medical records
- Attend Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned
Work Environment & Culture
- Team-oriented with emphasis on good communication and attentiveness to patient outcomes
- Dress code requires black scrubs
- No call requirements
Additional Notes
- Up to 5 days off per 13-week contract can be automatically approved; additional time off requires leadership approval and may need to be made up
- Block shift requests considered but not guaranteed
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized neuro unit with a focus on stroke and neurological conditions, supporting a collaborative healthcare team in a Level 3 Emergency and Trauma Center environment.
