Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) Travel Position

Location: Las Cruces, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM), Wednesday/Thursday/Friday
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care as the Operating Room Circulator Nurse in a Level III Trauma facility.
  • Responsible for patient safety, documentation, workflow coordination, and sterile field support during surgical procedures.
  • Support a diverse surgical caseload including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Robotics, Urology, Hand Surgery, and Podiatry.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care throughout the intraoperative phase, ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient surgical workflow.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, first assistants, nursing colleagues, and ancillary staff.
  • Duties include patient assessment and advocacy, surgical case preparation, equipment and supply management, documentation, specimen handling, medication administration, and multidisciplinary team coordination.
  • Must prioritize competing demands, anticipate procedural needs, and respond efficiently to changing patient conditions and surgical requirements.
  • Adhere to evidence-based practices, sterile technique standards, and organizational policies to support high-quality, patient-centered care.

Call Requirements

  • Call is split among OR RNs, averaging 7 calls in a 6-week period.
  • Weekday call hours: 3:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Weekend call shifts: 12-hour shifts, either 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Call and holiday coverage required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • OR Circulate experience with a minimum of 2 years
  • OR Circulate experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Orthopedics experience
  • OB/GYN experience
  • Hand Surgery experience
  • Urology experience

Additional Information

  • No floating required.
  • EMR systems used: Medhost, PICIS.
  • Hospital-laundered scrubs provided.
  • Option to work up to 48 hours per week.
  • Maximum of 1 week requested time off during assignment.
