Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Fast-paced, high-acuity labor and delivery unit with over 300 births per month.
- Double labor assignments are common daily.
- Average patient load: 20 births in 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits/day, 20 rooms.
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks.
- Procedures include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage.
- Unit uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR systems.
- Orientation duration: 24 hours.
- Scrubs provided (blue).
Schedule & Requirements
- Shift: Day shift, 12-hour shifts from 06:45 to 19:15 (3 shifts per week, 36 hours/week).
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
- Float requirement: Float as needed on a special maternity care high-risk OB unit.
- Call requirement: None.
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience circulating in the OR
- Competent in performing sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
Patient Care Details
- Care for obstetrical patients including high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum.
- Unit includes obstetrical triage for screening and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration.
- High volume of scheduled and emergency Cesarean births.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; additional documentation required for past positive TB.
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella. Declinations not accepted for measles.
- Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards.
- Mandatory completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training.
- Medication Safety training certificate required prior to start.
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no filters) must be submitted immediately after signing contract to avoid start delays.
- Must complete facility-specific confidentiality and hospital policy acknowledgments.
- Must complete annual flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask-wearing requirement.
Additional Notes
- Due to the fast-paced and challenging nature of the unit, 48-hour contracts are discouraged.
- Strong preference for RNs with circulating experience in the OR.
- RTO (Return to Office) is limited to 7 days maximum for auto-offer candidates.
- Candidates must pass competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG within 72 hours of start if applicable.
- Color blindness testing required within 1 year prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced labor and delivery RNs comfortable in a high-volume, high-acuity environment who are ready for a challenging travel assignment with strong support and clear compliance expectations.
