Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Trauma) – Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • Patient Population: Trauma patients including geriatric trauma (55+), abuse/violence victims, motor vehicle accidents, falls, acute care surgery cases (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, traumatic brain injury)
  • Unit Type: Level I Trauma Center, Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-6
  • Floats: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (75 mile radius rule)
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Relias EKG Exam: Must pass Relias Basic Dysrhythmia exam (interpretation/management of dysrhythmias required)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 5 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • EKG interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Licensure & Compliance

  • License: Must hold an active RN license valid in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 6 months required, including statewide and nationwide searches, plus education verification
  • Drug Testing: Required within 1 year of start, must include standard panels (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.) and remain valid throughout assignment
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – April 1)
  • Fit Mask Testing: Annual N95 fit test required (3M VFlex 1804 or 1860 models preferred)
  • Other Facility-Specific Documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, orientation modules (approx. 16 hours via online platform)

Additional Requirements

  • References: Two professional references required; supervisors preferred within last year
  • Competency Exams:
    • Unit-specific competency exam required annually
    • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia)
  • On-Call: Not required
  • RTO (Request Time Off) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off per 13-week contract; missed shifts should be made up as soon as possible

  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Parking: Monthly parking passes available; no charge for straight night shifts in employee parking; day/night rotation requires paid parking pass

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with trauma expertise seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity Level I Trauma Center environment.
