Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Saint Louis, Missouri
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN) in Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours (can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
- Floating: May float within ICU service line units as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Block Schedule Accommodation: Not available
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days off between shifts
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- ICU experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

- Respiratory failure / ARDS
- Acute chest pain, cardiac conditions, arrhythmias
- Stroke
- Cardiac arrest
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Multi-organ failure
- Sepsis
Unit & Equipment Details
- Unit Types: Pre- and post-operative cardiac, thoracic, abdominal surgeries; medicine and neuro-medicine overflow; pre- and post-transplant; end-of-life care and organ donation
- Special Equipment Used:
- IV pumps with titration
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) / dialysis
- Ventilators and BiPAP machines
- Hemodynamic and invasive monitoring devices
- Defibrillators and crash carts
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches and registries as required
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Education Verification: Highest nursing education must be verified prior to start
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU nurses)
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95 respirator) renewed annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
- Immunizations or immunity documentation for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific drug panels
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Facility-Specific Documents:
- HIPAA acknowledgement
- Latex allergy questionnaire
- Confidentiality form
- Regulatory compliance education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- Hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies acknowledgment
- Orientation modules completion (approximately 16 hours)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Vehicle registration form if applicable
References & History
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
