ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Metairie, Louisiana

Position Overview

• Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
• Location: Metairie, Louisiana
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Patient Care & Unit Details

• Patient ratio typically 1:2, occasionally flexes to 1:3
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• No call required
• Floating required: Nurses will float to all ICUs and may float to Emergency Department (ED) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to care for ICU patients; occasional float to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units with 1:4 patient ratios
• Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – may be obtained onsite within 30 days of start (cost approx. $50-$100)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Must know your N95 mask size (COVID-19 isolation patients may be present)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (annual, minimum 80%)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual, minimum 80%)
• Core Competency Parts I, II, and III (annual)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent)
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
• 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (boosters required if titers low)
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (signed within 12 months of start)
• 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if titer low)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1 - Mar 31) with exemptions and declinations accepted
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID matching all documentation
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including social security trace, nationwide and county checks, sex offender, federal databases, and FACIS Level 3
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days
• E-Verify/I9 documentation required

Additional Notes

• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total
• Nurses must be prepared to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 positive cases
• Facility-specific policies on employee appearance and flu declination apply
