ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Hazard, Kentucky
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Hazard, Kentucky
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 or 4 shifts per week), 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Minimum 2+ years of current ICU nursing experience required.
- Experience with Meditech EMR system.
- Patient ratio typically 1:2, but may fluctuate with census and call-ins.
- Float within scope of practice is required.
- Every other weekend required.
- Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated.
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility (local candidates not accepted).
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Valid Kentucky RN license or compact RN license.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience with MEDITECH EMR system.
- Valid Driver's License.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam or physician statement within 1 year prior to start, confirming clearance to work without restrictions.
- Fit mask test to be completed onsite; PAPRs not accommodated if facial hair present. Medical or religious exemptions for fit testing must be submitted on day one.
- Immunizations and documentation required prior to start:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid within 10 years; Td not accepted)
- Negative TB test (QFT Gold only, within 1 year, renewed annually) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer; if equivocal, first dose required to start, second dose within 28-30 days
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declination must be within 1 year)
- Varicella proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer; if equivocal, first dose required to start, second dose within 28-30 days
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season. Exemptions must be applied for within 48 hours of offer acceptance and approved prior to start.
- Drug testing: Must be completed within 30 days of start using a specific 9-panel drug screen (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone. Annual updates required.
Background and Compliance
- Background checks must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including:
- National criminal search, SS & address trace, sex offender, fugitive, violent offenders, county searches (last 7 years), FACIS 3 equivalent, SAM/EPLS, OIG, OMIG, OFAC, Social Security verification.
- Education verification included in background or third-party verification.
- State-specific registry checks required for Kentucky (Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry) within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Employment application and skills checklist required annually.
- Facility-specific documents including signed job description and safety manual acknowledgment must be completed and renewed annually.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must provide an unexpired government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID).
- Candidates must not submit applications to more than one job at a time.
- Assignment confirmation must be signed within 24 hours of offer.
- Candidates must be able to comply with a 36/48 schedule over a two-week pay period unless otherwise noted.
- Candidates with latex allergies must notify employee health and unit manager upon arrival for accommodations.
