Description

Registered Nurse - PICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Clinical review and auto offer process
  • Work nights or rotating shifts
  • Work every other holiday
  • Work 3 weekends per six-week schedule
  • May be required to float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
  • Pediatric cardiac experience is a plus
  • Can submit application with Virginia license pending
  • Time off: 40 hours approved; no time off approved during first 2 weeks of contract

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – PICU
  • Required years of experience: Minimum 1 year PICU experience within the last year
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and PALS mandatory
  • ACLS and NRP may be required depending on unit assignment
  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm testing required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units (not required for PICU)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Education verification required; BSN preferred, ASN minimum if no BSN
  • Official transcript acceptable; photocopy of diploma not accepted
  • Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health and certain units; may be required based on unit notification
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required only for Behavioral Health and specific units (not PICU)
  • Drug testing: 10-panel screen including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations allowed)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold) or chest x-ray if positive
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations for measles)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination accepted but must be documented)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Release authorization and TB screening forms must be completed prior to start
  • Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if required
  • Latex allergy questionnaire required if applicable
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Employment application/resume required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluations required and must be updated annually if applicable

Work Environment & Conditions

  • May float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics units based on staffing needs
  • Night shift with 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week
  • Work every other holiday and 3 weekends per six-week schedule
  • Time off limited during first 2 weeks of contract

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with PICU experience seeking a 13-week travel contract in Virginia with night shifts and some pediatric specialty exposure.
