Job Opportunity: RN - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: D2, 2nd floor, Mission Main campus
  • Number of Beds: 20
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 4 RNs, 2 CNAs
    • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 4 RNs, 2 CNAs
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5 or 1:6 (stretch), depending on level of care
  • Patient Type: Inpatient overflow unit with mixed medical-surgical and step-down patients
  • Length of Stay: Short stay patients (<24 hours) targeted to this unit
  • Equipment: Telemetry (all telemetry patients hardwired to bedside monitors)
  • EMR System: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Med Surg experience
  • Telemetry experience

Job Details

  • Typical Procedures: Progressive care nursing procedures consistent with telemetry and step-down care
  • Floating: Travelers must be willing to float to other units as needed
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required; no on-call duties
  • Dress Code: Navy and/or white top with navy bottom, or all white scrubs
  • Personality Fit: Positive attitude, patient experience focused, kind, compassionate, team player

Additional Notes

  • This is a fast-paced unit with quick patient turnover
  • The unit supports a mixed level of care including medical-surgical and step-down patients
  • Telemetry monitoring is a key component of patient care on this unit
