Description
Travel Registered Nurse (PACU) - Indianapolis, Indiana
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (11:00 AM – 11:30 PM)
- Call Requirement: 12-24 hours of call per 6-week period plus 1 holiday shift during the contract
- Average Daily Census: 65-85 patients
- Facility Type: Level 1 Trauma Center with 24/7 PACU coverage; ICU/PCU experience preferred
- Work Environment: Large, fast-paced, high acuity with many critical care patients, especially neurological cases
- Specialty Areas: Neuro, Orthopedics, Peripheral Vascular, Thoracic, Urology, Gynecology, Plastics, Intubated patients, Pediatrics, and all surgical services except open heart surgery
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience
- PACU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neurology experience
- Orthopedics experience
- Vascular Surgery experience
- Thoracic Surgery experience
- Urology experience
- OB/GYN experience
- Plastic Surgery experience
- Pediatrics experience
- Experience with Cerner
Important Notes
- Travelers must work or take call on any holiday occurring during their contract.
- Indiana RNs are restricted from working at this facility effective 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
- Local travelers with permanent Indiana residence may have different pay considerations (not included here).
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Check within 90 days including 7-year history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Official Transcript or Diploma verifying education
- Online verification of RN license within 30 days before start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted; history of disease not accepted
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Tuberculosis screening within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) with chest x-ray if positive
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exams
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, orientation, and policy documents prior to start
- Mandatory completion of any required online modules or training before orientation (if applicable)
- HIPAA acknowledgment updated annually
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses comfortable in a high-acuity, trauma center environment with pediatric and surgical patient care experience, who meet the licensing and certification requirements and can fulfill call and holiday shift obligations.
