Description

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location

  • Roanoke, Virginia

Contract

  • Travel/contract
  • 13 weeks

Schedule

  • Day shift, 3x12 hours
  • 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Weekend coverage may be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • On-call required, up to 24 hours per 6-week block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
  • 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Ability to assist with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
  • Experience with non-stress tests (NST)
  • Ability to perform reflex checks and edema assessment
  • Ability to perform sterile vaginal exam
  • Experience with triage of obstetrical patients
  • Experience with external fetal heart monitoring (EFM)
  • Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Experience with internal fetal monitoring
  • Experience with intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement and calibration
  • Experience with antihypertensive medications

Preferred Experience

  • Competency and experience in antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR, including scrubbing or circulating

Clinical Skills

  • Assist with sterile speculum exams
  • NSTs
  • Reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus assessment
  • Sterile vaginal exams
  • Triage of obstetrical patients
  • External fetal heart monitoring
  • Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Internal fetal monitoring
  • IUPC placement and calibration
  • Medication management including antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Local candidates are not accepted
  • RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be included with the submission
