Medical Surgical RN

Overview

• Travel/Contract role in Wilmington, North Carolina
• Day shift: 3x12, 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
• 36 or 48 hours accepted
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Target ratio: 1:6
• Unit census is about 43 adults and geriatrics

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience with Epic
• Must be able to work holidays
• Must be assigned to an Inclement Weather Team
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Preferred Qualifications

• CPI
• Charge nurse experience
• Charge role is preferred for night travelers

Schedule and Float

• Call is required if placed on a prescheduled call shift
• Floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Every other weekend required
• RTO after booking is not allowed
• Up to 7 days of RTO allowed for auto offer

Clinical Setting

• General Med/Surg patients
• Possible care for COVID patients
• No PCU-level patients on this unit

Unit Details

• Heparin drips
• Wound vac dressing changes
• High flow oxygen
• Limited short-term BiPap with respiratory support
• Unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR

Orientation and Work Conditions

• Unit orientation: 24 hours
• Contract staff may be required to work during storms, hurricanes, catastrophic events, mass casualty events, or disasters
• Staff may be preassigned to units as needed
• All travelers and staff are required to attend unit team meetings
