Operating Room

Overview

  • Travel/Contract Registered Nurse role in Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Day shift: 3x12 hours, 6:30 to 19:00.
  • 36 hours per week.
  • Acute care/hospital setting with 74 staffed beds.
  • Daily census: 20.
  • Ratios: 1:1 on days, nights, and weekends.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Epic is used for charting.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • OR - Operating Room (1 year of experience)
  • OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with gynecology procedures including abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy, anterior/posterior repair, bilateral tubal ligation, C-sections, dilation & curettage, and laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures
  • Experience with plastics procedures including abdominoplasty, laparoscopic assisted cases, and mastectomy with tram flap reconstruction
  • Experience with trauma procedures including amputations and multiple injury management
  • Experience with podiatry procedures including ankle fusion, bunionectomy, hallux vagus arthroplasty/arthrodesis, and metatarsal surgery
  • Experience with orthopedic procedures including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, closed/open reduction of fractures, laminectomy/discectomy, spinal fusion, and total joint replacement
  • Experience with general surgery procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic assisted procedures, mastectomy, and thyroidectomy
  • Experience with endoscopic procedures including bronchoscopy, colonoscopy, EGD, laparoscopic assisted cases, and peg tube placement/exchange
  • Experience with cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Steris equipment
  • Experience with urology procedures including circumcision, cystectomy, cystoscopy, laparoscopic assisted cases, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, and transurethral resection of the prostate
  • Experience with robotic surgery including colorectal robotic surgery, da Vinci Xi surgical system, gastrointestinal robotic surgery, gynecologic robotic surgery, orthopedic robotic surgery, otolaryngologic robotic surgery, and urologic robotic surgery

Skills and Clinical Experience

  • Operating Room experience includes gynecology, plastics, trauma, podiatry, orthopedic, general surgery, endoscopic procedures, urology, robotics, pedi endoscopic procedures, ear/nose/throat, and bariatrics.
  • Required OR skills include blood product administration, cardiac monitoring, conscious sedation monitoring, infection control, laser safety, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, starting peripheral IVs, universal protocol/time out, urinary bladder catheterization, and wound management.
  • Work settings include Ambulatory OR, General OR, Pedi General OR, and Trauma.
  • Trauma cases include amputations and MVA with multiple injuries.
  • Preferred scrub experience includes gynecology, plastics, trauma, podiatry, orthopedic, general surgery, endoscopic procedures, urology, robotics, pedi endoscopic procedures, ear/nose/throat, and pedi ENT surgery.

Additional Notes

  • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments may be needed as unit requires.
  • Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks, with cancelled shifts matching the regular shift length assigned.
