Pediatric Behavioral Health RN
Overview
- Travel/contract role in Kansas City, Missouri
- Pediatric psychiatric hospital
- 46 staffed beds
- Day shift: 3x12 hours, 7:00–19:30
- 36 hours per week
- First-time travelers accepted
- Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Unit / Patient Care Setting
- Acute in-patient behavioral health RN
- Pediatric psych facility
- Ratios: 1:12 on days, nights, and weekends
- RNs support medication passes and guide the unit
- Behavioral Health Techs directly observe and document patients
- Float scope: does not float within scope to meet facility needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Pediatric Behavioral Health experience within the last year
- 2 years of Pediatric Behavioral Health experience
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- CPI - Crisis Prevention Institute
- MANDT
- Missouri Children’s Division background check
- Pending license not accepted
- Local candidates not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
- No more than 7 days of RTO
Schedule Requirements
- Weekend requirement: every Sunday shift, every Friday shift, or every other Friday shift
- On-call not required
- Block scheduling not accommodated
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in child/adolescent, eating disorders, forensic, geriatric, inpatient, locked unit, medical/psych, outpatient, residential/group home, or substance use/chemical dependency settings
- Experience caring for patients with anxiety disorders, assault/violence, bipolar disorders, congenital/developmental disorders, degenerative disorders, depressive disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, profound impulse control issues, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, self-injurious behavior, severe intellectual disabilities, substance use, suicidal behavior, or trauma- and stressor-related disorders
- Experience with cardiac arrest/CPR, emergent chemical restraints, physical hold protocols, seclusion, voluntary/involuntary commitment, medication administration routes including PO/RECTAL/IM/IV/SC, starting and maintaining IVs, blood glucose monitoring, lab value interpretation and communication, seclusion protocols, behavior management, crisis intervention, de-escalation, managing assaultive behavior, and psychoeducation
