Medical Lab Scientist Job Details

• Location: Baltimore, MD 21201 (Maryland healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/26/2026 – End: 4/27/2026)
• Shift: Day shift, 1x8-hour (05:00 – 23:30); part-time, one shift per week (Wednesday or Monday evening)
• Hours per Week: 8 (part-time; one 8-hour shift per week, either on Wednesday evening or Monday evening)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1640 - $1770
• Setting: Hospital Laboratory
• Number of Openings: 2
• Orientation: 24 hours provided

Medical Laboratory Scientist Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist
• Active Maryland or Compact License required at time of submission
• ASCP certification required; BLS and ASCP-MLS preferred
• Proficient in laboratory equipment and instrumentation
• Blood Bank experience required
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Ability to work independently and as a generalist in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and other lab areas
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
• Comfortable floating within hospital laboratory departments
• 2 professional references required (1 supervisor/manager and 1 charge RN acceptable)
• Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility

Medical Lab Scientist Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and procedures in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and more
• Operate and maintain clinical laboratory equipment and instrumentation
• Ensure accurate specimen collection, preparation, labeling, and transport
• Conduct quality assurance and control procedures
• Interpret and report laboratory test results promptly
• Follow safety protocols for hazardous materials and infection control
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient care
• Float to other laboratory areas within the hospital as needed
