Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Details

• Location: Baltimore, MD 21201 (Maryland healthcare jobs)
• Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Lab Tech)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (Travel contract)
• Start Date: January 26, 2026
• End Date: April 27, 2026
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 5x8-hour day shifts (07:00 – 15:30)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Setting: Hospital Laboratory
• On-Site Position
• Floating: Required within specialty as needed
• Holidays: As scheduled

Medical Laboratory Scientist Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Lab Technician, including Blood Bank experience (required)
• Active ASCP certification (ASCP-MLS preferred)
• BLS certification (preferred)
• Experience with Epic charting system (preferred)
• Ability to function independently and operate a wide range of laboratory instrumentation
• Comfortable floating within the hospital laboratory as needed
• Active Maryland or Compact license required at time of submission
• References: 2 satisfactory professional references from recent employers (1 supervisor/manager and 1 charge RN acceptable)
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
• Travelers must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Lab Tech Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and procedures in Blood Bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation
• Accession, process, and analyze specimens accurately
• Ensure quality assurance and control procedures are followed
• Report and interpret test results promptly
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Float to other laboratory areas within the hospital as required
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training (24 hours orientation provided)
