Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,930–$2,080
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel respiratory therapy assignment, with potential to accept a 13- or 26-week commitment
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Healthcare Setting: Short-term acute care hospital and Level II trauma center
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
• Shift Time: 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, with holidays as needed
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic
• Patient Population: Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Floating: May rotate among hospital departments, including pediatric and neonatal units, and a nearby affiliated campus based on census and staffing needs
• Orientation: 36 hours

Certified Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent respiratory therapy experience in an acute care hospital setting
• Previous travel respiratory therapist assignment experience required
• Active Connecticut respiratory therapy license
• Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential; RRT is strongly preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Level II trauma experience required; higher-acuity trauma experience is preferred
• Demonstrated experience with Draeger ventilators required
• Strong acute care respiratory therapy skills, including ventilator management, airway care, suctioning, ABG collection and interpretation, oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with high-frequency jet or oscillating ventilators is highly valued
• NICU and pediatric respiratory care experience preferred but not required
• Ability to work nights, every other weekend, holidays as needed, and float throughout the hospital
• Flu vaccination is required
• Local candidates residing within 75 miles are not eligible for this travel assignment

Respiratory Therapy Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive respiratory care for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
• Assess respiratory status and deliver evidence-based interventions for patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions
• Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators, including Draeger systems, high-frequency jet ventilators, and oscillating ventilators
• Provide airway management, intubation assistance, extubation support, tracheostomy care, and emergency respiratory interventions
• Administer aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and other prescribed respiratory treatments
• Collect and interpret arterial and capillary blood gases and communicate significant findings to the care team
• Support neonatal and pediatric care areas, including high-risk deliveries and critical care units, as assigned
• Perform pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, and secretion management
• Document respiratory assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, timely, and effective patient care
• Float to other departments and support the orientation of students or new staff when needed
