Pathologists' Assistant Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $3,240–$3,470
• Job Location: Patchogue, NY
• Healthcare Setting: Hospital pathology laboratory
• Assignment Type: Four-week travel laboratory contract
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: November 16, 2026
• Schedule: Five 8-hour day shifts per week; primarily 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with occasional 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. shifts
• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Orientation: 8 hours
• Documentation System: EPIC experience preferred

Pathologists' Assistant Job Requirements

• Master's degree in an applicable field
• At least 2 years of relevant experience, including hospital clinical laboratory experience
• Professional experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in surgical pathology
• ASCP or ASCP-PA certification preferred
• Experience with EPIC or comparable electronic documentation systems preferred
• New York licensure or required state credentialing in hand, or an acceptable license issuance timeline for the assignment start date
• Current copies of applicable licenses and certifications
• Two managerial references; charge-level references are not accepted
• COVID-19 and influenza vaccination required according to assignment policy

Pathologists' Assistant Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and dissection of small biopsies and large or complex surgical pathology specimens
• Provide accurate macroscopic descriptions of gross anatomic features
• Section surgical pathology specimens and prepare tissue for histological processing
• Receive, identify, accession, label, fix, and process specimens according to hospital laboratory standards
• Perform gross and microscopic photography and image analysis
• Obtain and review relevant patient clinical information, including scans, X-rays, and laboratory results
• Support tissue sampling for microscopic examination and tumor triage processes
• Maintain accurate pathology documentation and communicate effectively with pathologists and laboratory teams
