Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6 on the unit
- Unit: Post-surgical medical-surgical floor with adult/geriatric patient population
- Float requirements: As needed to surgical, neuro, and intermediate units (may take med surg level patients)
- Shift: 36 hours per week, every other weekend required
- Call: None
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge nurse experience
- Background in med-surg nursing with post-surgical patient care, especially orthopedic experience
Unit & Patient Information
- 18 beds on the unit
- Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, and PCA pumps
- Common diagnoses treated: COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, infection
- Fast-paced environment requiring strong teamwork and patient advocacy
Education
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
Additional Notes
- Orientation provided twice monthly
- Dress code: Scrubs of any color allowed; no unacceptable attire specified
- No call requirements
- Must be able to keep up with a busy floor and work well within a team environment
