Description

Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6
Unit: Post-surgical medical surgical floor
Patient population: Adult/geriatric medical surgical patients
Common diagnoses/treatments include COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, infection
Float requirements: As needed; may float to surgical, neuro, intermediate units (will take med surg level patients)
Orientation provided twice monthly
Busy floor requiring team players and strong patient advocates
Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, PCA pumps
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner

Schedule & Hours

Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend hours: Every other weekend
Call requirements: None

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with Cerner Electronic Health Record system

Preferred Qualifications

Charge nurse experience

Additional Information

Unit size: 18 beds
Personality fit: Must be able to keep up with a busy floor and work well in a team environment
Dress code: Scrub color is flexible; no unacceptable attire specified
