Description

Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6
Med Surg background required
Experience with post-surgical patients, especially orthopedic, is highly beneficial
Cerner electronic health record system experience is required
Orientation provided twice monthly
Float requirements as needed to surgical, neuro, and intermediate units (may take med surg level patients)
Adult/geriatric medical surgical patient population
Common diagnoses include COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, and infection
Busy floor environment requiring team players and strong patient advocates

Shift & Hours

Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend hours: every other weekend
No call requirements

Unit Information

Number of beds: 18
Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, PCA pumps

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in North Carolina
Minimum 2 years of medical surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Experience with post-surgical patients
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

Charge nurse experience

Additional Notes

Dress code: any scrub color acceptable
Must be able to keep up with a busy floor environment
