Job Description

The Cat Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex CT procedures and uses professional judgment when reviewing patient clinical histories for procedures.
• Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family members.
• Identifies and administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Reviews patient prescriptions to verify exam appropriateness and communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician as necessary.
• Responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions, obtaining insurance authorization, and sending exam modification forms to finance.
• Obtains outside studies and schedules them in the system to ensure availability for Radiologists.
• Evaluates radiographs using the PACS System for proper identification and diagnostic value.
• Prepares patients for scanning, including providing explanations and instructions at an understandable level.
• Monitors patient conditions for adverse reactions during procedures and performs venipuncture as needed.
• Adheres to policies on employee standards, attendance, and required lifting and physical demands.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2 years of GE experience required (GE Revolution Frontier 64 slice preferred).
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, mechanical attributes of CT software/hardware, and PACS systems.
• ARRT (CT) certification must be achieved within 12 months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire.
• NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License required.
