Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, performing intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. They evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans, explain procedures and treatments to patients, and provide necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment and devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning using various methods and perform oximetry and capnography monitoring.
• Review patient's chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures according to policy.
• Perform tracheostomy care and arterial punctures as needed.
• Monitor and record patient responses to treatments and document findings accurately.
• Communicate with physicians regarding therapy efficacy and participate in hand-off communication during shift changes.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and perform other assigned duties.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid respiratory therapy certification and state licensure required. Must comply with all policies related to respiratory care and laboratory testing.
