Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, offering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, while functioning within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans, explains the purpose and procedures of treatments and tests, and provides necessary education for patients upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments utilizing various ventilatory, oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning via multiple techniques.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tubes.
• Execute arterial punctures and evaluate ventilation efficiency, documenting results appropriately.
• Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records for respiratory therapy treatments and patient responses.
• Communicate with attending physicians regarding therapy effectiveness, and participate in shift handoffs by providing detailed reports.
