Job Description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RT-I) is licensed by the NYS Department of Education and is responsible for performing respiratory therapy procedures, cardio-respiratory diagnostics, and patient assessments under the direction of a licensed physician. RT-Is assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders, and take primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures
• Maintain patient records
• Supervise respiratory therapy technicians
• Select, assemble, check, and operate respiratory equipment
• Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of an AMA-approved program of Respiratory Care (Minimum Associate Degree)
• Active NYS Respiratory Therapist License in good standing
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in an academic medical center
• Basic Life Support Certificate required; ACLS certification preferred
• EPIC experience required
• Pediatric and adult critical care skills highly desirable
• Experience with emergency department procedures and neonatal patient management is preferred
• Patient transport (both inter- and intra-hospital) experience desirable
